No ordinary brown paper bag
A liner with a circular economy built in.
The Good Sort is made from 100% post-consumer recycled Australian paper, helping keep useful materials in circulation and reducing the need for imported liner products made from virgin or overseas materials.
It’s a small household product with a bigger systems purpose: better food waste habits, cleaner organics streams, local manufacturing, and more usable compost.

From kitchen scraps to compost
made simple.
The Good Sort helps turn everyday food waste into a cleaner, easier habit — from benchtop caddy to kerbside bin to nutrient-rich compost.
A simple system for cleaner food waste sorting at home.
Line your caddy with our caddy bag, collect your scraps. Fill caddy with scraps until it is ¾ full, then simply fold the bag closed and leaving the bag still in the caddy, simply empty the caddy bag into your green bin, or straight into your home composting system to help turn food waste into compost!
Not sure what goes where? We’re building that too.
Food waste rules can vary from council to council, so we’re starting with a dedicated Darebin guide to support the current trial and help local households sort with more confidence.
Over time, The Good Sort will continue building simple council-based sorting resources to make food waste habits clearer, easier and more consistent across more communities.
Custom liners for councils, campaigns and community education.
The Good Sort liners can be customised to support food waste education, council FOGO trials, behaviour-change campaigns, and local circular-economy programs.
Printed liners can help households remember what belongs in the caddy, how to use the liner correctly, and why food waste sorting matters.

FAQs
Are The Good Sort liners compostable?
1
Yes. The liners are paper-based and suitable for home composting and commercial composting where accepted by your local council or processor. The inks and glues used are water-based, and the liners have been tested with multiple composting facilities to confirm they break down effectively during processing.
Do they fit council kitchen caddies?
2
They are designed to fit 7L council food organics caddies. Custom sizing is available for larger council, trial or commercial needs.
Can I use them in my worm farm?
3
Yes. Paper can be a helpful carbon source and moisture absorber in worm farms and home composting systems.
What food scraps can go inside?
4
What food scraps can go in your green bin depends on your local council. Different councils send food and garden waste to different composting facilities, and each facility has its own processing methods and accepted materials.
Are the good sort’s liners different from compostable liners?
5
Yes. Unlike compostable plastic or bioplastic liners, The Good Sort liners are made from 100% recycled paper. Paper breaks down faster during composting, is less likely to interfere with processing equipment, and cannot be tied shut in a way that hides contamination. This makes it easier for composting facilities to identify incorrect items and helps support cleaner food organics collections.
Can i use supermarket paper shopping bags instead?
6
No. Supermarket paper shopping bags are not designed with compostability in mind. They may contain glues, inks, and binding materials that are not compost-safe, and the handles are often too thick to break down within the required composting timeframe. These bags have also not been tested for PFAS or other chemicals that can affect compost quality, so they should not be placed in your green bin for composting.
why are bioliners and composatble liners problematic?
7
Bioliners and compostable plastic liners can cause issues at composting facilities. They are often difficult to distinguish from regular plastic bags, can hide contamination when tied shut, may clog machinery, and can take longer to break down - especially knots.
Paper liners break down faster, are easier to identify, and do not create these same processing issues.
